We Welcome Children to Worship

Babies and Toddlers - The Fireside Room off the narthex (foyer) offers comfortable seating if babies or toddlers need a break or comforting. A change table is available in the accessible washroom next to the kitchenette.

Arrangements for Baptism may be made with Pastor Brad. Also see 'A Christian Journey' site on this website.

Sunday School Classes are offered from mid-September until the end of May for school aged children. It begins at 9:45 with a time with our Pastor. The children join their families for Holy Communion coming back to join worship at the sharing of the peace. Sunday School classes are recessed for June, July, and August. When classes are recessed for holidays, there are age appropriate activity leaflets available at the entrance to the sanctuary to bring to the pews. A dedicated bulletin board just outside the sanctuary posts information on location of classes, youth events, mission projects, etc.

Our Sunday School is following a Workshop Rotational model. This was introduced by Pastor Brad, who used this model of teaching in another congregation. The same Bible story is taught for 3-6 weeks in a row to the children. Each week children get to experience the story from different perspectives in a different workshop. Each week features a new and unique work shop. Workshop ideas include storytelling, drama, video, baking, construction, music, games, banners, dance, science, gardening, art, crafts, computers, spirituality/prayers or any other hobby or skill that fits with predetermined themes such as Noah & the Ark, The Ten Commandments, Easter, Jonah & The Whale, etc.

Children's Offerings are used to help missions. Through CLWR (Canadian Lutheran World Relief) we have purchased flocks of chickens, fish nets, etc. Children have also contributed to filling a school backpack for a Syrian Refugee child.

Approximately every 6 weeks we have Family Sundays (Contemporary Worship) which gives families a chance to worship together for the whole service. On those Sundays, the children take an active part in the service helping with acolyting, readings, taking up the offering and the cross, etc.

Acolyting - All youth from Grade 3 and up are invited to participate as Acolytes. Talk to Pastor Brad.

Confirmation Classes (usually for young teens in Grade 7, 8 or 9) are lead by Pastor Brad and another adult. We use a mentoring system and meet monthly to study Luther's small catechism and other relevant information. The teens reaffirm the promises made in their Baptism and our Christian faith. The process lasts about a year. Please contact the church office to put your child's name on a contact list for next Fall.

Youth Convention

Canadian Lutheran Anglican Youth (CLAY) Gathering. Every two years, the Lutheran and the Anglican youth from across Canada gather. This Gathering takes place every two years at different locations across Canada. Our Gathering in 2016 will take place in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, from August 17-21. At CLAY they'll encounter scripture in meaningful ways, experience ancient and modern ways of worship, and learn together in special interest forums. Zion has some youth attending CLAY 2016. www.claygathering.ca (Registration is full now.) Youth from our church will be attending this event.

2 Timothy 3: 14,15 TLB

But you must keep on believing the things you have been taught. You know they are true for you know that you can trust those of us who have taught you. You know how, when you were a small child, you were taught the holy Scriptures; and it is these that make you wise to accept God’s salvation by trusting in Christ Jesus.
